Verizon to defend voice share with VoIP services

3 Feb 2006

Verizon Dominicana, the dominant provider of telephony services and internet access in the Dominican Republic, has contracted Verilink Corporation to supply its 8000 Series Integrated Access Device (IAD) for the deployment of Verizon’s new managed VoIP IP Centrex Service. The 8000 Series is based on plug-and-play architecture, which integrates directly into existing phones, PBX and Key systems, to deliver VoIP. VoIP services are rapidly being taken up in the Dominican Republic, with companies such as Cordia, Imperio Movilcom, Airspan Networks and BEC Telecom all eating into Verizon’s voice telephony market share.
