TDC seeks buyer for Polkomtel stake

3 Feb 2006

Danish telco TDC has confirmed that it is looking to sell its 19.6% stake in Polish wireless operator Polkomtel to one of the company’s other shareholders. TDC has reportedly offered its shares at EUR214.04 each, valuing the company at EUR4.4 billion. Several of Polkomtel’s shareholders, including Vodafone (which also owns 19.6% of the company), and a trio of domestic companies comprising mining group KGHM, oil company PKN Orlen and electricity utility PSE, have all expressed an interest in the stake. The local investors, which together control 57% of Polkomtel have said for more than two years that they wanted to dispose of their stakes, but collectively failed to negotiate a deal despite interest from Vodafone and TDC.
