CamGSM contracts Alcatel to build 3G network

Cambodian cellco CamGSM, which operates under the banner MobiTel, has contracted French equipment supplier Alcatel to upgrade its network to 3G. CamGSM, which is owned by Millicom International Cellular, hopes to launch the network commercially during the first half of 2006. Under the terms of the deal, the value of which has not been disclosed, Alcatel will provide the cellco with radio access and core network equipment, as well as video telephony and streaming applications.
