China Mobile ‘prefers’ W-CDMA

1 Feb 2006

According to a report in Hong Kong business daily The Standard, China Mobile CEO Wang Xiaochu has indicated that his company would prefer to roll out a 3G network based on the W-CDMA platform rather than the homegrown standard of TD-SCDMA. The report speculates that a new entrant, such as China Telecom Corp or China Netcom, is more likely to be issued with a TD-SCDMA licence. China is expected to award three 3G licences sometime later this year.
