Alcatel has been awarded contracts worth EUR10.4 million by two operators on the Pacific Islands of French Polynesia and New Caledonia. In the first contract Alcatel will deploy a broadband access network for the Office des Postes et Telecommunications (OPT), which will allow the telco to offer advanced services such as IPTV and eventually triple play solutions. The contract will also extend the operator’s broadband reach to more remote regions including the Marquesas and Leeward group of islands. In the second contract Alcatel will deploy an advanced billing system for the OPT in New Caledonia at a cost of EUR5.7 million.
