Government annuls Telmex tender

31 Jan 2006

The Argentinean government has annulled a USD18 million tender awarded to Mexican telco Telmex last week to build a communications network for the police. Domestic telcos Telecom Argentina and Telefónica de Argentina challenged the award, claiming that Telmex was not the best operator for the job, and a technical committee has now declared that Telmex’s two technical proposals failed to meet the government’s requirements. The tender is expected to be re-launched later this week.
