19.8 million mobile phones in Nigeria

According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the total number of mobile subscribers in the country stood at 18.6 million at the end of 2005, a penetration rate of around 16% and close to the regulator’s predicted end-year figure of 20 million. The NCC said it hopes to see the total number of subscribers grow to 50 million by 2010. At the end of 2005, there were 1.22 million fixed line customers in the country.
