According to CRI Online China’s telecommunications sector saw stable growth in 2005, with total revenues of CNY579.9 billion (USD71.93 billion), an 11.7% improvement on the previous year. According to figures published by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), the growth was partly driven by an increase of nearly 100 million telephony subscribers, 38.68 million new fixed lines and 58.6 million wireless connection. By the end of 2005 there were 740 million phone users, comprising 350 million fixed line and 390 million mobile users. During the course of 2005 12.63 million customers signed up to broadband Internet services, taking the total to 37.5 million.
