SeCom denies Hutch licence

25 Jan 2006

According to local newspaper El Cronista, Argentine telecoms regulator SeCom has refused to grant Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunications a mobile operating licence. Hutch was awarded frequencies to provide fixed wireless local telephony in Buenos Aries in 1999, and in July 2004 it requested 905MHz-915MHz and 950MHz-960MHz spectrum to provide mobile services. The operator said the regulator’s decision came as a surprise, but had not given up hope of launching a wireless service in the future.
