ePLDT and NTT buddy up to offer instant messaging

24 Jan 2006

ePLDT, the internet arm of Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT), has signed a partnership agreement with Japan’s NTT Communications Corp – which holds a 14% stake in the Filipino telco – to offer secure instant messaging (IM) services in the Philippines by the second quarter of 2006. Instant messaging enables two users to converse online in real time. Popular non-secure IM services include those provided by Yahoo and MSN. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.
