Zapp introduces fixed-wireless CDMA service

23 Jan 2006

Romanian mobile operator Zapp Mobile has launched FixTel, a fixed-wireless home phone service offering conventional fixed handsets connected to its CDMA wireless network. Zapp’s Z1110 phone incorporates a 154kbps modem and can be connected to a computer via USB cable for internet access. FixTel subscribers who also subscribe to Zapp’s mobile service will receive a single bill for both services, and are eligible for loyalty discounts. Zapp operates 450MHz CDMA2000 1x and 1xEV-DO networks and had 340,000 subscribers at the end of September 2005, representing less than 3% of Romania’s mobile market.
