Vologda growth helps MegaFon

The Russian mobile operator Megafon says its customer base in the region of Vologda rose 75% in 2005 to reach 700,000 by year-end. The regional operation is part of MegaFon North-West, which also provides services in St. Petersburg, plus the regions of Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod and Pskov. MegaFon had around 22 million GSM subscribers across the whole of Russia at the end of 2005, making it the country’s third-largest cellular operator behind MTS and VimpelCom.
