Cable merger due for completion by March; but branding in the balance

20 Jan 2006

The merger of UK cable operators ntl and Telewest is on track to be completed in March, ntl CFO Jacques Kerrest told a conference yesterday. The UK’s Office of Fair Trading (OFT) approved the merger without referring either deal to the country’s Competition Commission earlier this month. Kerrest says that the decision of what to call the newly merged entity remains unresolved, pending the outcome of ntl’s bid to takeover MVNO Virgin Mobile.
