Telekom Slovenije backtracks on bid for Maltacom

19 Jan 2006

Telekom Slovenije has stated that it will not follow through with a previously announced plan to bid for a 60% stake in Malta’s national telco Maltacom, due to ‘business risks associated with the investment.’ In August 2005 Telekom’s board gave its management team the go-ahead to file a non-binding bid for Maltacom’s majority share, valued at between EUR180 million and EUR195 million.

Telekom is hoping to expand its operations in south east Europe, where it recently failed in a bid to purchase Telekom Montenegro; it has also held talks to buy a 50% share of Gibraltar’s Gibtelecom.
