19 Jan 2006

Hong Kong-based mobile operator SmarTone-Vodafone is offering its 3G network users a new five-band 3G data card with worldwide roaming capabilities. The GlobeTrotter 3G wireless data card is touted by its manufacturer, Option, as the world’s first five-band data card, combining 3G UMTS technology at 2100MHz for EMEA markets and quad-band GPRS 850/900/1800/1900MHz for other worldwide markets.

Established in 1992, SmarTone-Vodafone was the first operator to launch GSM mobile services in Asia the following year, and was the first in Hong Kong to introduce automatic international roaming.
