Motorola provides Macedonia with wireless broadband

17 Jan 2006

Motorola’s Macedonian unit has successfully deployed a national broadband wireless network in Macedonia using its so-called ‘pre-WiMAX’ MotoWi4 Canopy technology. Under a government-backed programme dubbed the Macedonia Connects Project, Motorola is aiming to provide low-cost broadband internet access to the populace and to this end has already connected 360 primary and 100 secondary schools, as well as some universities and other educational establishments. Morevoer, the US-based company says it has connected more than 1,000 businesses to the network. The project is understood to be funded by the United States Agency for International Development and Macedonia’s Ministry of Education and Science.
