Vinaphone to invest USD70 million this year

Vietnamese mobile operator Vinaphone has revealed plans to invest USD70 million into the upgrade and expansion of its GSM network during 2006. The cellco said that the investment would enable it to double its capacity, with the number of transmission stations expected to rise to 2,400 by the end of the year. It plans to add between 1.4 million and 1.6 million subscribers to its customer base, which currently stands at around 3.5 million. Vinaphone is the country’s largest mobile operator, competing against MobiFone, Viettel, S-Fone, VP Telecom, Hanoi Telecom and Cityphone.
