DiGi Telecommunications’ chairman Arve Johansen has been named as the head of parent Telenor Group’s Asian division. Johansen will remain as chairman of the Malaysian cellco whilst acting as the Norwegian group’s Asian senior executive vice-president. DiGi’s CEO Morten Lundal said that Johansen’s appointment ‘clearly illustrates Telenor’s confidence in the region and in Malaysia through its stake in DiGi’. Telenor said that it is in the process of establishing Asia and eastern/central Europe as semi-autonomous operational regions, with dedicated executive vice-presidents, as it previously did with its Nordic operations. In Asia, besides DiGi, Telenor has a presence in mobile markets in Bangladesh (GrameenPhone), Thailand (DTAC) and Pakistan (Telenor Pakistan).
