Cofetel rules in Nextel’s favour in SMS dispute

16 Jan 2006

Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (Cofetel) has ordered the nation’s GSM and CDMA network operators to exchange text messages with iDEN operator Nextel Mexico. Cofetel has given Iusacell, Telcel, Unefon and Telefónica Móviles México 60 days to make its SMS services compatible with those of Nextel, after the latter filed a complaint with the country’s antitrust committee last year.
