Not enough mobile numbers in Vietnam

13 Jan 2006

With the number of cellular subscribers in Vietnam increasing rapidly, to around 7.46 million at the end of September 2005 from 4.75 million at the end of 2004, mobile operators are starting to run out of phone numbers. State-owned VNPT, which owns cellcos MobiFone and Vinaphone, has submitted two possible solutions to the Ministry of Posts and Telematics (MPT): introduce either number changes or new network codes. The MPT has yet to make a decision on the matter. There are six wireless operators in Vietnam in total: MobiFone, Vinaphone, Hanoi Telecom, S-Fone, EVN Telecom and Viettel.
