Broadband comes to Sierra Leone

13 Jan 2006

Israeli telco Sierra-Com has launched high-speed internet and voice over IP (VoIP) services in Sierra Leone via its IPTEL subsidiary, the country’s first broadband offering. The new operator has pledged to invest USD3 million into the rollout of broadband services, and plans to establish a network using telecoms equipment imported from Israel. Sierra Leone’s internet market has been plagued by poor management and broken infrastructure, with the only service available being a dial-up option provided by state-owned Sierra Leone Telecommunications Company (Sierratel).
