Swisscom Fixnet has announced that from March 2006 it will triple bandwidths for its individual ADSL packages. The company claims the move comes in response to demand for higher data transfer capacities. Fixnet provides ADSL access via a network of 30 ISPs. Migration of most of the company’s 600kbps residential users to 2Mbps is planned for the end of April, with all upgrades expected to be complete by mid-year. ADSL services are currently available to over 98% of the country’s four million or so fixed lines. In August 2005 ADSL penetration topped the one million mark.
