Econet to double tariffs

10 Jan 2006

Zimbabwe’s Econet Wireless is increasing its call tariffs by up to 100% from 13 January. The company announced that the increase includes on and off-peak calls between Econet users and international calls. Econet says it has increased its subscriber base by over 80,000 since the end of June 2005 to more than 350,000, representing its fastest rate of growth since 1998. It also provides the majority of public payphones in the country, and has deployed over 5,000 public kiosks in low-income communities since fixed line operator TelOne ceased its payphone business.
