Vivendi claims legal victory in PTC case

9 Jan 2006

According to the Warsaw Business Journal, French media group Vivendi Universal has gained the upper hand in its struggle with Deutsche Telekom to take control of wireless operator PTC. According to Vivendi, the Vienna Commercial Court ruled in its favour late last week, cancelling an earlier arbitration award of November 2004 that favoured the German telco. The ruling is the latest in a string of legal battles between the two companies dating back to 1999, when Elektrim transferred its 51% in PTC to a holding company know as Elektrim Telekomunikacja (Telco). A stake in Telco was subsequently sold to Vivendi, igniting the struggle with Deutsche Telekom, which owns a direct 49% of PTC.
