Orascom passes 30 million subs

Egyptian mobile group Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) says it finished 2005 with more than 30 million cellular customers across its operations in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, up 107% year-on-year. OTH operates GSM networks in Algeria (Djezzy GSM), Pakistan (Mobilink), Egypt (MobiNil), Tunisia (Tunisiana), Iraq (Iraqna), Bangladesh (Banglalink) and Zimbabwe (Telecel Zimbabwe). Last month it took a 19.3% stake in Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd (HTIL), which holds stakes in operators in Hong Kong, Macau, India, Israel, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Indonesia and Vietnam.
