MTN confirms interest

Pan-African telecoms group MTN has confirmed that it will be bidding in the auction for a 35% stake in Tunisia’s monopoly fixed line operator, Tunisie Télécom. Several operators, including Bouygues Télécom and Telefónica have pulled out of the bidding, but players such as France Télécom and Vivendi Universal are still showing an interest. In addition, MTN has confirmed that it will also be bidding for Egypt’s third mobile licence.
