AXS challenges regulator

6 Jan 2006

Struggling Bolivian telco AES Communications (AXS) says it plans to launch a legal challenge to stop the country’s telecoms regulator Sittel cancelling its concession and forcing it into liquidation. Sittel says AXS will have its licence revoked on 11 January if it does not comply with a ruling ordering it to pay off its debts. BNamericas reports, however, that AXS is challenging Sittel’s threat to cancel its concession, claiming that this does not follow Bolivian law. If successful, AXS will be able to postpone the 11 January deadline, giving it more time to formulate a rescue strategy.
