Mobile coverage reaches 88.6%

4 Jan 2006

According to a report by local consultancy Teleco, combined mobile phone coverage in Brazil has reached 88.6% of the population, with two or more wireless operators offering coverage of over 85%. The report suggests that the increase in coverage was due to cellcos sacrificing profitability in exchange for market share. At the end of 2005 Brasilcel (Vivo) remained the country’s largest mobile operator, despite its customer base falling 5% during the year, with TIM in second place.
