22 Dec 2005

Hungary’s dominant operator Magyar Telekom has created a new business unit, Professzionális Mobilrádió (Pro-M Zrt) to build and operate the country’s national Unified Digital Radio Network (EDR) system – a single communication system for all emergency services in Hungary. Magyar Telekom won the tender with an offer promising a net service fee of USD44 million per annum. The new system is planned to be operational in Budapest by April 2006 and will provide nationwide coverage by 2007. Magyar Telekom has a 25% plus one share stake in Pro-M Zrt, which was established with a registered share capital of USD950,000. The remaining stock is held by T-Mobile Hungary, Magyar Telekom’s mobile arm.
