TT&T establishes trio of Triple T telcos

21 Dec 2005

Thai fixed line build-transfer-operate (BTO) franchisee TT&T has established three new operating subsidiaries to apply for services in the newly liberalised Thai wireline market. The group says Triple T Broadband, Triple T Telecom and Triple T Global will apply for broadband internet, fixed line telephony services and international gateway concessions in the coming weeks. The NTC is expected to hand Triple T Broadband a licence early next year and TT&T says it is in talks with four potential investors to help fund the rollout of nationwide services. The telco has earmarked around THB3.5 billion (USD85 million) to build a broadband and data network over the next 18 months. It says it expects to sign up 300,000 broadband users and break even by 2008. Triple T Telecom is targeting 500,000 fixed line telephony users in the same period.

TT&T was established in June 1992 to finance, build and operate networks in 72 regions outside Bangkok under a 25-year BTO deal with TOT. Under the BTO agreement it is limited to operating 1.5 million lines.
