Brazilian fixed line and mobile operator Brasil Telecom plans to invest a total of USD1.05 billion in its operations in 2006, with almost half of the figure earmarked for its wireline division. A fifth of the total is to be poured into its mobile unit in an attempt to increase its mobile user base to three million by 2007. The remainder of the budget will be used by the company to comply with government regulations. At the end of September 2005 Brasil Telecom had 1,676,000 subscribers to its GSM services; it had 9.5 million fixed lines in service at the end of 2004.
