BT pushes prices up again

19 Dec 2005

UK fixed line incumbent BT Group has come under fire for increasing its basic line rental for the second time in 18 months. BT, which still controls the bulk of fixed line connections in the UK, has upped the rental of its ‘BT Together Option1’ call plan by GBP0.50 (USD0.88), to GBP11 a month. The increase follows a GBP1 price hike in June 2004. The decision will affect the 13.8 million customers that take the Option 1 service as well as 3.7 million users who take services from alternative providers but must still pay BT for line rental.
