Anatel extends fixed line concession date

16 Dec 2005

Brazilian regulator Anatel has extended the deadline for signing new 20-year licence contracts with the country’s fixed line operators from 14 December to 28 December. Operators Embratel, Telemar, Brasil Telecom, CTBC Telecom, Sercomtel and Telefonica will all sign new concessions, known locally as STFC contracts, for local, long-distance and international services. The new licences, which will introduce new measures such as per-minute billing rather than billing for pulses, are due to come into effect in January 2006.
