NEC to downsize Chinese mobile operations

15 Dec 2005

Japan’s third largest electronics conglomerate NEC Corp has announced it is halting development and sales of low-cost mobile handsets in China to focus instead on high end terminals that retail for USD250 or more. The manufacturer will cut its line-up to about 15 models in its next fiscal year (starting April 2006), and has trimmed its mobile shipments target for 2005/06 to around ten million units, from 15 million the previous year.
