Celtel wants two million Madagascan subscribers

15 Dec 2005

Celtel, which earlier this week acquired 66% of Madagascan cellco Madacom for USD97 million, has revealed plans to boost subscriber numbers at the cellco to two million by the end of 2007, from 250,000 today. The operator said that the Madagascan mobile market has high growth potential, with the penetration rate being one of the lowest in Africa. Celtel plans to expand Madacom’s network to rural areas in the country over the next two years.
