Venezuelan telecoms regulator Conatel has launched a tender for a subsidised concession to provide communications to ten rural states, according to BNamericas. The project is being part-funded by the country’s universal service fund (USF) and covers the rollout of telephony, internet and data services. All operators that have contributed to the USF are permitted to bid for the concession. Contracts are expected to be distributed in February 2006 with the project due for completion by October.
