Three cellcos at centre of corruption allegations

13 Dec 2005

Paraguayan mobile operators Hola, Telecel and Telecom Personal are at the centre of an anticorruption investigation, according to BNamericas quoting local paper ABC. Audiotext service provider WTelecom claims that the cellcos have refused to carry its audiotext messages as SMS despite it having signed interconnection agreements with all three. It has now asked the country’s anticorruption tribunal to step in after repeated requests to regulator Conatel fell on deaf ears. The country’s fourth mobile operator, CTI Móvil Paraguay, is not being investigated as it has so far refused to sign an interconnection agreement with WTelecom.
