Reliance Infocomm and China Telecom sign international connectivity agreement

13 Dec 2005

Indian telco Reliance Infocomm has signed a deal with Chinese fixed line carrier China Telecom to set up a new international cable link. Under the deal Reliance will route international traffic through the undersea cable lines operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Flag Telecom. A connection between Flag’s cable system and China Telecom’s network has already been established in Hong Kong.

Rival Indian international long-distance operator Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) provides direct links with China via China Netcom’s gateway in Beijing, connected to the SEA-ME-WE3 undersea cable system.
