ISPs object to newcomers

13 Dec 2005

Local internet service providers Logic, North Rock, Transact and Fort Knox have submitted written objections to the Minister of Telecommunications regarding Cable & Wireless and TeleBermuda International being allowing to offer dial-up and DSL services to residential customers; the pair are currently limited to providing internet services to business customers. The ISPs objections are reportedly based on the fact that both of the players are backed by foreign investors and that the market is already saturated. Cable & Wireless’ proposal focuses on its desire to provide internet connections to its residential users, whereas TeleBermuda International’s primary interest appears to be in the provision of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.
