Maxis expands 3G to Penang

12 Dec 2005

Maxis Mobile has expanded its 3G services to the Penang area. The Malaysian mobile market leader’s W-CDMA network was launched across the Klang Valley in July and further rollouts in Johor are planned by early 2006. Maxis says it is confident of taking up a leading position in the 3G market next year when it plans the launch of high speed data packet access (HSDPA) services. At the end of September the company had a total of 7.01 million mobile subscribers, with an estimated 12,500 3G users. It says it is confident that half of its customer base will eventually opt for 3G services.
