GVT wants 100,000 VoIP customers

Brazilian telco Global Village Telecom has launched a new subsidiary, Vono, which specialises in VoIP technology and plans to have signed up 100,000 customers by the end of 2006. The telco plans to invest BRL20 million (USD8.9 million) into the new unit, which will provide services to 146 Brazilian cities including Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazilia and Santa Catarina. GVT predicts that there will be 3.56 million broadband internet users and around 400,000 VoIP subscribers in Brazil by the end of 2006.
