12 Dec 2005

US-based broadband infrastructure provider Airspan Networks says it has completed the deployment of a large scale rural telecoms network for BEC Telecom, an alternative operator in the Dominican Republic. The network was built under the Dominican Republic’s Rural Public Telephony Phase II Project and covers townships in the provinces of La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monseñor Nouel, Monte Cristi, Peravia, Valverde, La Vega, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, Santiago and Santo Domingo. Users of the new network can make and receive local, long-distance and international calls, as well as access the internet access, using a combination of fixed and wireless technologies, including VoIP.
