Telekom looking at Mobilkom sale

9 Dec 2005

Speculation is growing in Austria that the government is considering spinning off Telekom Austria’s cellular division Mobilkom. Local press reports suggest that the state, which has a 30% stake in Telekom, wants to see Mobilkom floated on Vienna’s Stock Exchange. Critics of the deal, who include the company’s CEO, Heinz Sundt, who has threatened to resign over the issue, say that both Telekom and Mobilkom will be weakened following the split in what is one of Europe’s most competitive telecoms markets.
