Argentine fixed line operator Telecom Argentina has announced a budget of USD300 million during 2006, including USD120 million to migrate its networks to IP technology, according to BNamericas. Telecom’s planned IP upgrade will include the replacement of 1,000 switching centres across the country with softswitches, deployment of metro Ethernet infrastructure as well as fibre-optic backbone network expansion. Telecom had 4.329 million fixed lines in operation at the end of 2004, and says it expects to migrate at least 100,000 wireline customers to next-generation services in 2006.
