Singapore’s third largest cellco MobileOne Asia (M1) confirmed today that it is entering into an agreement with Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) and Smart Communications, PLDT’s wholly-owned mobile unit. On Wednesday, PLDT spokesman Ramon Isberto said the deal is aimed at providing discount mobile services to Filipinos in Singapore through a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) venture with M1. He added that the contract with M1 will be similar to the agreement that PLDT made last year with Hong Kong’s CSL, a subsidiary of Australian telco Telstra, which allowed it to offer services to ex-pat Filipinos in Hong Kong. Further details of the new agreement will follow, M1 said.
