Telecel’s licence could be cancelled

6 Dec 2005

The Zimbabwean government has revealed plans to either cancel the licence of Telecel Zimbabwe, or change the ownership structure of the company, after its chairman and major shareholder, James Makamba, was found to have breached the Foreign Exchange Control Act by trading on the black market. The government said it wants to oust Makamba from Telecel, and if this does not happen then the cellco’s licence will be withdrawn.
