Vivo to promote 3G for Christmas

Mobile operator Brasilcel, which operates under the Vivo banner, has announced plans to promote its 3G phones this Christmas, according to a report in local paper Valor Economico. The cellco, which offers two EV-DO mobile handsets, claimed 110,000 subscribers with 3G-compatible phones at the end of October, 20,000 of which were actually using the EV-DO platform. Vivo had 28.9 million users in total at the same date, giving it a 35.6% market share, making it the largest cellco in the country.
