MTN trials HSDPA FWA

1 Dec 2005

South African cellco MTN has teamed up with Ericsson to test HSDPA-enabled W-CDMA fixed wireless access (FWA) services. MTN envisages the use of the service to provide broadband internet connectivity to remote areas and those not yet covered by traditional fixed line technology. Ericsson says the HSDPA-based service is capable of download speeds of up to 14 Mbps making it comparable to an ADSL fixed line service.
