Mobile subs get Wi-Fi

1 Dec 2005

Telenor says its network of 400 public access wireless LAN hotspots is now open to all mobile subscribers. Post-paid users can log on to mobile internet services at Wi-Fi hotspots and be charged for usage via their normal mobile bill, while pre-paid customers and non-Telenor subscribers can gain access by requesting a password and paying for usage via an SMS service. Most public WLAN usage is currently from users with laptop computers and PDAs, but handset manufacturers are now releasing phones which offer both Wi-Fi and conventional cellular connectivity.
