OMTC hands Siemens USD20 million GSM expansion contract

Oman Mobile Telecommunications Company (OMTC) has signed a deal worth OMR7.8 million (USD20.2 million) with German vendor Siemens to extend its GSM network capacity and coverage in the Sharqiya, Dakhliya, Dharia and Wusta regions. The contract covers the third phase of a partnership between OMTC and Siemens to expand and upgrade GSM infrastructure in outlying areas of Oman. OMTC claims to have over one million subscribers across the Sultanate. Second placed cellco Nawras Telecom had 174,000 customers at the end of September.
